Individual Mental Health Counseling

Individual mental health counseling can help adults and youth experiencing depression, anxiety, substance abuse or addiction, post traumatic stress, and other mental health / psychological disorders.  We offer supportive, solution-oriented individual therapy that keeps clients in charge of the direction and focus of our work together. Individual therapy can further help people attempting to navigate life transitions such as having a child or children, work and career challenges, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered orientation and coming out, parent caretaking and grandparents raising grandchildren, and grief, loss and bereavement.

Couple and Family Therapy

This includes therapy for couples and families experiencing conflict, communication problems, child and adolescent behavior problems, oppositional defiant disorder, adolescent self harm, family violence, separation and divorce, infertility challenges, sexual problems, infidelity and cybersex, one or both partners with addiction, post-divorce/separation conflict, military couples impacted by the trauma of war and loss, and challenges with deployment and reintegration in military families.  Family therapy generally includes all family members living together in a household, but will often include meetings with individuals or sub-groups of a family.  Couples therapy begins with an assessment of couple communication, each partner's goals and wishes, and the feasibility, possible approaches, and parameters of couples work.

Supervision

Whether for recent graduates from Master's Degree programs in Marriage and Family Therapy or Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or some other supervision needs, our therapists can offer clinical supervision.  For MFTs, Shawn Hassell is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and can offer supervision during the post-graduate practical experience period for marriage and family therapists planning to apply for licensure.  He can work with supervisees to develop an appropriate Supervision Agreement and agency agreement as needed, and to consider the licensing requirements of the New Hampshire Board of Mental Health Practice, or another state licensing body, in order to help meet the needed eligibility requirements for licensure as a marriage and family therapist (LMFT).  For mental health counselors planning to apply for licensure, Christine Lavoie can offer supervision based on considerable supervision training and experience.  She is familiar with the requirements for the post-graduate practical experience for clinical mental health counselors in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and elsewhere.
